Graduated from the Institute of Computing Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences<\/em> Reva is a freelance algorithmic artist and a computer graphics engineer based in Beijing. Her works explore algorithmic art, NFTs, and creative programming, real-time interactive installation, and GPU shader programming. Before becoming an artist, she was an R&D engineer for the China Film Group<\/em> and a partner of a VR and AR company. <\/span><\/section>\n

Later, her interest in exploring the relationship between technology and art drove her to become an artist in 2018. Since then her works have been exhibited at the Art window project of CHAO Hotel<\/em> in Sanlitun Beijing, BDMG Life Art Festival, Gap C Gallery+ Art Exhibition,<\/em> and has worked on major collaborations like the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, Chengdu International Finance Square,<\/em> fashion brand Delicate Skeleton, 24KiCK,<\/em> etc. She is also the co-founder of WeirDAO,<\/em> a collective predominantly comprised of China-based NFT artists, designed to encourage peer-to-peer communication and collaboration.<\/span><\/section>\n

Reva is not the typical artist. In fact, she never pursued the path of an artist until most recently. Having worked for the film industry as an engineer, she began teaching herself digital art in 2018. Combining her computer engineering skills and artistic interests, she immersed herself into algorithmic art using coding which was inspired by the visual representation of mathematical functions and autonomous system simulations. <\/span><\/section>\n

Reva\u4e0d\u662f\u5178\u578b\u7684\u827a\u672f\u5bb6\u3002\u4e8b\u5b9e\u4e0a\uff0c\u5979\u662f\u76f4\u5230\u6700\u8fd1\u624d\u5f00\u59cb\u53d1\u5c55\u827a\u672f\u5bb6\u7684\u8fd9\u6761\u9053\u8def\u3002\u5728\u7535\u5f71\u884c\u4e1a\u62c5\u4efb\u5de5\u7a0b\u5e08\u4e4b\u540e\uff0c\u5979\u4e8e 2018 \u5e74\u5f00\u59cb\u81ea\u5b66\u6570\u5b57\u827a\u672f\u3002\u7ed3\u5408\u5979\u7684\u8ba1\u7b97\u673a\u5de5\u7a0b\u6280\u80fd\u548c\u5bf9\u827a\u672f\u7684\u5174\u8da3\uff0c\u5979\u628a\u6765\u81ea\u6570\u5b66\u51fd\u6570\u7684\u89c6\u89c9\u8868\u793a\u548c\u81ea\u4e3b\u7cfb\u7edf\u6a21\u62df\u4f5c\u4e3a\u7075\u611f\uff0c\u6c89\u6d78\u5728\u4f7f\u7528\u7f16\u7801\u7684\u7b97\u6cd5\u827a\u672f\u4e2d\u3002<\/span><\/section>\n

As her art developed, she turned to crypto art after reading the Bitcoin<\/em> white paper during the start of the pandemic. While China\u2019s stance on crypto was relatively strict, she felt the significance of blockchain technology for the future. She comments on its possibilities as such: \u201cI dream about a real-time interactive project on the blockchain. It can be interacted with by anyone through smart contracts. It can reveal some interesting aspects of reality. It would be a bridge between crypto and the real world.\u201d <\/em>During this time she engaged with many crypto-related communities and platforms on Discord<\/em> and Twitter,<\/em> eventually making her way up to becoming a certified crypto artist on Makersplace.<\/em> <\/span><\/section>\n

The foundation of Reva\u2019s inspiration is drawn from mathematics and the power of computer-generated art. Many of the works she has generated include aspects of oriental influences as their subject. In her series, \u201cThrough the Window\u201d<\/em>, she generates blossoms and branches surrounded by Chinese-styled window lattices that are seen in Chinese art and architecture. Each piece is generated with alternating patterns, weather, and nature. The variations as seen by the viewer can act as a window to a memory in time, the sentiment, and the sceneries that we envision in our own narratives.<\/span><\/section>\n

\u201cA Heaven in a Wild Flower\u201d <\/span><\/em>and \u201cChasing the Moon\u201d <\/em>are extensions of this subject matter and her exploration of traditional patterns. Bringing more abstract thinking into these works, the first of the two series comes from the Chinese title, \u201c\u4e00\u82b1\u4e00\u4e16\u754c” (Y\u012b Hu\u0101 Y\u012b Sh\u00ecji\u00e8) <\/em>which means \u201ca flower is a world\u201d<\/em>. This is derived from the Flower Adornment Sutra (Avatamsaka Sutra),<\/em> a key scripture that is prominent in East Asian Buddhism which in part details the phenomena of the universe as seen by a Buddha from the perspective of enlightenment. Traces of these influences can be found in China, Korea, and Japan. <\/span><\/section>\n

<\/span>The theme is also reflected partly through English poet William Blake\u2019s poem that Reva recites: <\/span>“To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour.\u201d <\/em>Reva believes this is the emotional state of serenity and openness. In this series, she mimics the patterns of porcelain, she teaches the program to represent the textures, colors, and themes we have seen on oriental porcelain pieces of china.<\/span><\/section>\n
